Getting to know who Amy-Sarah is and how she got to where she is today
When did you first start diving?
I was 16 years old back in 2008. Its been a long time. Time fly’s when you are diving!
What made you start diving?
I was so jealous of my younger brother who was scuba diving in Mozambique. I wanted to go to Mozambique as well, so I started my course but I didn’t end up qualifying in Mozambique, but in a quarry in South Africa.
What do you like about Malta?
I like the fact that there aren't a lot of beaches as I don’t really like sand. I also like the fact that its so safe to be able to go for walks or go take photos whenever.
How long have you been working for NDS?
Beginning of 2019 with Jasper. I love working at NDS.
What kind of diving do you personally enjoy?
I love doing technical dives as I get to explore more instead of basically rushing back due to someone's gas or NDL restrictions. The longer time I get to explore the more fish and tiny marine life I can observe
What is your favourite dive site around the Maltese Islands?
The Blue Hole in Gozo for sure, not so much the walk to the entry though. I love how much life lives around the boulders and previous Azure Window.
What do you do on your non-diving days at work?
I design, I work on social media marketing (FB & INST), complete emails, edit photos and drink a lot of coffee!
Favourite piece of equipment?
My drysuit, 100% I would not dare put on my wet-suit I would get too cold, even in summer. My drysuit is my everything.
Favourite course to teach?
My favourite courses to teach are the Deep and Search & Recovery Specialty.
Deep, because I love the reaction of my students to narcosis and to teach them what pressure actually does underwater. Alot of giggling takes place
Search & Recovery, because it’s fun to hide an object for the student and see how long it takes for them to find it
Did you ever fail a student during a course?
Not necessarily FAIL, but halt their qualification, because they had not quite managed to figure out the concept of buoyancy and I felt they were a hazard to themselves during a wreck speciality.
What has been your best experience with NDS so far?
When the returning customers come back and they notice the difference Jasper and I have made on NDS. The newer customers giving us high compliments of how we operate and teach means that we truly are making this centre a successful one!
Describe yourself in 2 words
Loud and outgoing. You will find out when you come diving with me!
