Cross-Re-Tour project
We are very pleased to have recently been selected as a beneficiary of the Cross-Re-Tour Open Innovation Programme. We are proud that our project was selected and is another indication of our passion towards a healthier ocean.
Our project
Over the next 12 months we are on a mission to help reduce our impact on the environment, and hopefully encourage our divers to make environmental friendly decisions.
The first part of our project is focusing on our dive truck. We drive to a lot of different dive sites every week. Unfortunately, this does come at a cost to the environment. Our dive trucks are currently diesel, which is polluting and contributes to poor air quality. We will be upgrading our dive trucks to also run on LPG. This is a cleaner gas, with fewer pollutants and a reduction in carbon emissions. This will be done with local mechanics here in Malta.
The second part of our project is a push to reduce single use plastics. As divers, we need to drink a lot of water at the dive sites. This can result in a lot of single use plastic bottles. We are looking at ways to ensure our divers do not need to purchase plastic bottles by using refillable bottles and providing clean safe drinking water here at the dive centre. Although this is a challenge, we are looking forward to finding an innovative approach to supply water to our divers every day in a sustainable way.
Our project is backed with support and funding from the Cross-Re-Tour programme, and without the valuable information and guidance this would not be possible. We are looking forward to getting started. Stay tuned for updates
Dive into a greener future
If you have dived with New Dimension Scuba before, you will already know we are keen to protect what we love and look after our ocean.
We already take part in debris dives, and pick up any debris we find on a dive. Our dive team can often be seen with plastic and bottles in their hand as they exit the water. We are passionate about passing on the skills with Dive Against Debris courses with our divers. We have adopted our house reef (Adopt The Blue with PADI AWARE), to ensure our local dive site is healthy for marine life and divers.
As a member of Green Fins Digital Member, we follow the Green Fins Code of Conduct with every dive. This ensures no dive site is negatively impacted by our actions, promoting good buoyancy control and respect for marine life.
We are looking forward to continuing to protect the ocean beneath the waves, and because of the Cross-Re-Tour project, we can project the environment above the water.
